The Worksite Wellness Council of Massachusetts hosted their 4th Annual Conference at Gillette Stadium last Tuesday, September 22, 2015. The Worksite Wellness Council of Massachusetts is an organization of Massachusetts health promotion professionals and business leaders dedicated to promoting healthier lifestyles for all employees of Massachusetts through health promotion activities at the worksite. If your organization is seeking a network of support on various topics of worksite wellness, the Worksite Wellness Council of MA Resource Guide can guide in the right direction.
With over 150 attendees and nearly 40 representing sponsors and affiliates, the conference was full of energy and passion for workforce health. The theme, “What’s in Your Wellness Playbook?” equipped wellness leaders and implementers with the information they needed to build a successful wellness strategy.
Laura Putnam, Founder and CEO of Motion Infusion, encouraged employers to, “Move beyond individual tactics and programs to create a culture of health.” And Jim O’Neill, Chief People Officer at HubSpot, said, “Build a culture that people want to be a part of, and your organization will attract talented employees.”
Throughout the conference speakers reiterated the importance of creating a “culture of health.” Let’s break that phrase down:
- Organizational culture is the values and behaviors that build the unique social environment of an organization.
- Culture affects the organization’s productivity and performance as it plays a crucial role in shaping behavior in organizations
- Organizational culture is unique for every organization and one of the hardest things to change.
However, if an organization has a “culture of health” the working environment values, supports and promotes employee health and safety through workplace health programs, policies, benefits, and environmental supports.
